Bord Bia condemns IFA protest at its offices as 'unacceptable' and 'very intimidating' for staff
""We respect anyone's right to protest, but it is unacceptable and unprofessional to disrupt the work of Bord Bia staff. The situation was very intimidating for colleagues at reception, when a large group of farmers entered the building under false pretences and then refused to leave. These actions reflect poorly on the IFA and escalates a matter which can only be resolved through dialogue.""
""An Garda Síochána are on site and are providing support to Bord Bia to help resolve the situation safely and appropriately.""
""Their Quality Assurance Mark has value because of the product it is affixed to. This product is produced by farmers. Nobody can eat a logo.""
Protesters entered Bord Bia premises under false pretences, refused formal requests to leave, and remained on site, prompting Gardaí to attend and support a safe resolution. Bord Bia described the presence as intimidating for reception staff and said the actions reflected poorly on the IFA and escalated the dispute. The protest entered day nine with the IFA calling for chairman Larry Murrin to resign after revelations that his company, Dawn Farms, imported beef from Brazil last year. Both the IFA and ICMSA renewed calls for his resignation and the chairman will attend an Oireachtas Agriculture meeting on Thursday.
