Tim Cook says Apple is open to M&A on the AI front | TechCrunch
"We're making good progress on it, and as we've shared, we expect to release it next year," Cook said during his opening remarks."
"open to pursuing M&A if we think that it will advance our roadmap."
"In fact, the manufacturing plant that makes the servers used for Apple Intelligence just started manufacturing in Houston a few weeks ago, and we've got a ramp planned there for use in our data centers. And, you know, it's robust," he said."
Apple remains open to acquisitions and partnerships to accelerate its AI development while pursuing a three-pronged approach of in-house foundation models, third-party LLM partnerships, and possible acquisitions. The company expects to release a next-generation, AI-powered Siri in 2026 and is integrating ChatGPT via its OpenAI partnership into Siri and Apple Intelligence. Apple creates foundation models, ships them on devices, and processes private AI through Private Cloud Compute. A Houston manufacturing plant recently began producing servers for Apple Intelligence with a planned ramp for use in company data centers, and Private Cloud Compute already handles some Siri queries.
