Asteria Film Co. recently celebrated its opening in Los Angeles, founded by Bryn Mooser and actress Natasha Lyonne. The studio, located in a historic soundstage, aims to pioneer AI-driven storytelling in filmmaking, following a legacy of innovative filmmakers like Walt Disney and George Lucas. Lyonne expressed concerns over the authenticity of technology use in Hollywood, while unsettling AI-generated clips showcased the studio's unique yet eerie creative direction. With nearly 100 AI studios emerging, Asteria encapsulates the convergence of technology and film arts.
"The story of Hollywood is the story of technology," Mooser said, emphasizing how new tools have historically influenced the creative landscape of filmmaking.
Over the past few years in Hollywood, it had become clear to Lyonne that many people were not being forthright with how often they were using the technology.
As Mooser saw it, Asteria fit into a lineage of creatives who had ushered in new eras of filmmaking, invoking the legacies of figures like Walt Disney and George Lucas.
The uncanny clips generated by Asteria's AI model—including eerily animated robots and mannequin heads—highlight the studio's innovative yet unsettling approach to storytelling.
