Google's AI model collection, Gemma, has achieved over 150 million downloads since its launch in February 2024. Omar Sanseviero from Google DeepMind announced this milestone, noting that developers have generated more than 70,000 variants of the model on the Hugging Face platform. Gemma's multimodal capabilities allow it to process both text and images in over 100 languages. Despite its rapid adoption, Gemma has not yet matched Meta's Llama, which has over 1.2 billion downloads and has faced criticism for licensing terms.
