"Indian aircraft deployed for rescue efforts in earthquake-hit Myanmar faced GPS spoofing attacks, complicating their missions amid regional tensions and strategic rivalries."
"GPS spoofing misleads pilots about their locations, a challenge in operational areas like Myanmar where the Indian Air Force has been active."
Since March 29, Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft have been conducting rescue and relief operations in quake-struck Myanmar under Operation Brahma. However, they have encountered cyber-attacks, specifically GPS spoofing that misleads pilots regarding their true locations. The origin of these spoofing attacks remains unclear, particularly in a region where China has strategic interests and non-state militant groups are active. To counteract the spoofing, IAF pilots have switched to a backup inertial navigation system to ensure accurate navigation and mission success despite the cyber threats.
