SF Sheriff's Office launches 1st-of-its-kind AI chatbot to help recruit deputies
Briefly

Sgt. Ken, the San Francisco Sheriff's Office's new virtual assistant, serves as a real-time AI recruitment agent, answering questions from potential deputy candidates. Ken Lomba, president of the San Francisco Deputy Sheriff's Association, emphasizes that Sgt. Ken aims to connect better with the community while utilizing cutting-edge AI technology. The fully autonomous chatbot could expand its role to other social media platforms in the future. Professor Ahmed Banafa notes the growing trend of government agencies adopting AI, with 43% planned for deployment in 2024.
"It'll answer questions for anybody that's thinking of becoming a deputy or may have some interest and just need some questions answered," said Ken Lomba, president of the San Francisco Deputy Sheriff's Association.
"It's the latest technology, too. As everybody's getting used to more and more AI stuff and AI chats, we're right there. We're at the cutting edge," he said.
"We're looking at a couple of other social medias to duplicate this on. I think we could get up to four or five 'Ask Sgt. Ken' AI agents," Lomba added.
"The statistic we have is 43% of government agencies in 2024 are piloting or deploying and using AI internally," said Professor Ahmed Banafa.
