Trump's 'AI Action Plan' to mix tech industry wishlist with culture war attacks on 'woke AI'
Briefly

Trump will reveal an "AI Action Plan" after revoking prior AI guardrails on his first day back in office. Co-hosted with the Hill and Valley Forum, the plan will likely include familiar tech lobby proposals such as facilitating AI technology sales abroad and energy-efficient data center constructions. The focus will also address concerns about 'woke AI,' a term used by Trump's tech advisers like David Sacks, who criticize perceived liberal biases in AI chatbots. This initiative addresses long-standing conservative frustrations with AI's political alignment.
The plan and related executive orders are expected to include some familiar tech lobby pitches. That includes accelerating the sale of AI technology abroad and making it easier to construct the energy-hungry data center buildings that are needed to form and run AI products.
Sacks has been criticizing 'woke AI' for more than a year, fueled by Google's February 2024 rollout of an AI image generator that, when asked to show an American Founding Father, created pictures of Black, Latino and Native American men.
Blocking 'woke AI' from tech contractors has long been a rallying point for tech industry's loudest Trump backers, who see liberal bias in AI chatbots like ChatGPT.
Sacks stated, 'The AI's incapable of giving you accurate answers because it's been so programmed with diversity and inclusion,' which reflects concerns regarding perceived political bias in AI.
