"Once upon a swampy ol' dirt road, two sisters, Caelum and Terra, were growing up under the care of a spindly little witch by the name of Katarina."
"This story is drawn from my own childhood growing up at the end of a dirt road with a mother who was in the midst of a psychotic breakdown, and a lifetime spent teasing out the relationship between creativity, intuition, magic, and madness,"
"Suffused with joy and tenderness amidst the hardship, these cards speak the language of fairytale, because there are some truths that can only be told by witches and unicorns, ogres and toads,"
The Sibylant Sisters narrative follows siblings Caelum and Terra caring for a deteriorating witch mother named Katarina. The project draws from childhood experiences of living at the end of a dirt road amid a mother’s psychotic breakdown and examines links between creativity, intuition, magic, and madness. The undertaking spans seven years and multiple media: sculpture, installation, costume, film, live-action and animated read-alouds, and an 88-card Oracle of the Sibylants deck featuring symbolic and idiosyncratic imagery. The project is currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter and is planned as a traveling exhibition with films, a novella, and theatrical components.
