"Mnuchin, an investment banker who found a second career as a dealer of Modern and postwar art, died in December at 91. His gallery on Manhattan's Upper East Side was a powerhouse, known for museum-quality exhibitions of top artists. It will shutter at the end of February. Its final show was a survey of Julian Schnabel 's famed plate paintings, which ended on Saturday. The gallery remains accessible by appointment."
"Following a career at Goldman Sachs, Mnuchin opened his first gallery, C&M Arts, in 1992 by partnering with Los Angeles dealer James Corcoran. Specializing in Abstract Expressionism, it occupied 45 East 78th Street, a townhouse that Mnuchin acquired with his wife, Adriana, in 1982. In 2005, he joined forces with Dominique Lévy, changing the gallery's name to L&M Arts. The two remained partners until 2013, when Lévy struck out on her own. From then on, the business was known as Mnuchin Gallery."
Mnuchin Gallery will close at the end of February after 34 years following founder Robert Mnuchin's death at 91. The Upper East Side space earned a reputation for museum-quality exhibitions of Modern and postwar artists and ended operations after a final survey of Julian Schnabel's plate paintings; the gallery remains accessible by appointment. Mnuchin began C&M Arts in 1992 after a career at Goldman Sachs, co-led L&M Arts with Dominique Lévy from 2005 to 2013, then operated under his name. The gallery advised major collectors on de Kooning, Rothko, and Twombly purchases and broadened its program to include more female artists and artists of color amid a challenging market.
