A seascape sculpture titled The Swell by Ro Robertson will be the first outdoor artwork displayed at Wolterton Hall, a country estate in Norfolk. The sculpture, measuring two metres high and made from steel, will be installed in the estate's grounds next year. Wolterton Hall, built in 1741 and recently restored, aims to become a hub for outdoor art, competing with nearby Houghton Hall. Simon Oldfield emphasizes the connection between the installation and the natural landscape to enhance visitor experience and appreciation of the area.
Robertson's two-metre-high sculpture The Swell, composed of three welded steel forms, will be sited from early next year in the grounds of Wolterton Hall.
Wolterton Hall, originally built in 1741, has undergone significant restoration since being purchased in 2016 to reopen as an attraction for the public.
Simon Oldfield, the artistic director, highlights the importance of the landscape in planning the outdoor installations to reflect the parkland and lake's beauty.
Plans for Wolterton indicate aspirations to rival other significant outdoor art venues in Norfolk, like Houghton Hall, known for its permanent and temporary art exhibitions.
