"The Biennale will be scattered across venues throughout Singapore, ranging from MRT stations to shopping centers, and will include artists from Argentina, Australia, Germany, India, South Korea, Türkiye, and the United States as well as a healthy contingent from Singapore and South Asia. More than thirty new commissions will be on view, including Vietnamese American artist Tuan Andrew Nguyen's Temple, a massive installation made from defused unexploded ordnance discovered in central Vietnam's Quảng Trị province;"
"SB2025 provides a unique opportunity for us to reflect on the many ways our city has been shaped by its architecture and systems, as well as the people who move through it. By inviting diverse voices to respond to themes of rapid urban development, historical contradictions and speculative futures with pure intention, this edition unpacks Singapore's multifaceted realities within global narratives,"
Singapore Biennale 2025 opens October 31 and runs through March 29, 2026, marking Singapore's sixtieth birthday under the theme "pure intention." The event gathers more than eighty artists and collectives from a broad range of countries, with over thirty new commissions sited across public and institutional spaces, including MRT stations, shopping centers, and the historic Rail Corridor. Signature works include Tuan Andrew Nguyen's Temple made from defused ordnance and a kinetic outdoor installation by Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Guo-Liang Tan. Curatorial aims center on examining urban development, layered histories, social movement, and speculative futures through art as a lens.
