Art Week Riyadh (AWR), held from April 6-13, was organized by Saudi Arabia's Visual Arts Commission as a non-commercial event. Despite this, it mimicked the format of an art fair, facilitating sales and showcasing works primarily from local and regional galleries. The main exhibition, titled At The Edge, highlighted impactful pieces such as Ayesha Sultana's cityscape and Mohammed Al Resayes' canvases. The event included a moving image section and satellite programs like open studios and gallery shows, aiming to engage both local and international audiences with Saudi Arabia's evolving art landscape.
Despite calling itself a curated exhibition, Art Week Riyadh operated similarly to an art fair, with galleries showcasing available, museum-grade works and engaging in sales.
The inaugural Art Week Riyadh featured a diverse range of artworks from primarily Saudi and regional galleries, emphasizing both local creativity and international art dialogues in a historic setting.
