"The wait to find out who the new manager of the Atlanta Braves is over and as it turned out, the team has once again stayed within the organization in order to bring in their new skipper. Former Braves shortstop and bench coach Walt Weiss has been promoted to the position of field manager for the Atlanta Braves. As is customary for a lot of big Braves news, it came straight from the team itself with an announcement out of the blue."
"This'll be Weiss's second go-around as a big league manager, as his first stint as a manager took place from 2013 through the 2016 season with the Colorado Rockies. The best record Weiss produced during his time there was that 2016 season, which is when the Rockies went 75-87 and finished third in the NL West that season. He stepped down after the end of the season and now 10 years later, he'll be in charge of the Braves once Opening Day 2026 rolls around."
"This isn't a massive shock since Weiss's name has been in the conversation since the beginning. We've all known that the Braves like to hire from within when it comes to this type of thing and while Dodgers bench coach Danny Lehmann's name seemingly picked up some steam in recent weeks, it's become clear that the Braves have decided that the best course of action would be to keep it within the organization and stick to someone who's been around here for a while."
"Weiss had been bench coach with the Braves since 2018 and won a ring as a member of the coaching staff that helped push the Atlanta Braves to the 2021 World Series. If they're going to win another World Series in the near future, hopefully it'll be with Walt Weiss at the helm. The Braves have their manager and now it's time to focus on offseason moves to return to contention."
Walt Weiss, a former Braves shortstop and bench coach since 2018, has been promoted to field manager for the Atlanta Braves and will lead the team beginning Opening Day 2026. Weiss previously managed the Colorado Rockies from 2013 through 2016, producing a best season record of 75-87 in 2016 before stepping down. The Braves favored an internal hire over external candidates such as Dodgers bench coach Danny Lehmann, valuing organizational continuity and Weiss's familiarity with the club. Weiss won a World Series ring as part of the 2021 Braves coaching staff. The team now shifts focus to offseason roster improvements to return to contention.
