Griner honored in Phoenix return as Dream win

Brittney Griner scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds, leading the Atlanta Dream to a 90-79 victory over the Phoenix Mercury. Griner, who played 11 seasons with the Mercury, received a tribute video before the game. Allisha Gray was the star scorer with 28 points. Atlanta capitalized on Phoenix's poor shooting, while Phoenix made all of its free throws to stay competitive. Key players for Phoenix, Satou Sabally and Kahleah Copper, returned from injury but the team struggled offensively, shooting only 29.7% from the field.
Griner made her return to Phoenix, where she played 11 seasons with the Mercury, helping lead them to the 2014 WNBA title and an appearance in the 2021 finals.
Allisha Gray scored a game-high 28 points, including a layup that gave the Dream an 84-71 lead with 3:03 left.
Phoenix shot just 29.7% from the field, including 3 of 15 from 3-point range, but stayed close by making all nine of its free-throw attempts.
Gray made 10 of 16 shots for her 10th 20-point game this season.
