Simon Yates (Visma-Lease a Bike) captured the Giro d'Italia's maglia rosa after dropping race leader Isaac del Toro (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) on the Colle delle Finestre. With just one flat stage remaining, Yates, who previously lost on this climb to Chris Froome, capitalized on key support from teammate Wout van Aert. His solid attack 13 kilometers from the summit allowed him to secure a lead, while Del Toro struggled without tactical support. Yates is now poised for a second Grand Tour win headed into Rome, unless an unforeseen mishap occurs.
Having lost the Giro on the same climb to Chris Froome six years ago, Yates will head into Rome on Sunday with a second Grand Tour victory safely in his pocket.
Yates attacked 13 kilometres from the summit of the Finestre and had an advantage of nearly two minutes by the top, successfully clinching the maglia rosa.
