How to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month 2025 in Portland
"There's no better free resource we can think of for learning and community connection than your local library. In honor of Hispanic and Latine Heritage Month, the friendly librarians at Multnomah County Library have put together a list of recommended reading by Hispanic authors (including Funeral for Flaca by former Mercury contributor Emilly Prado!). Several of the library's branches will also host events including sing-alongs, story hours, and workshops for all ages."
"Mis Tacones translates to English as my heels, an apt and purposeful name for this queer- and Chicano-owned restaurant serving up vegan versions of the street food the LA-native owners are nostalgic for. Join them in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month and Mexico's Independence Day (no, it's not Cinco de Mayo) at this family-friendly event! After you've eaten your fill of the amazing brunch buffet and drank the bar dry of bottomless mimosas and aguas frescas, get down in a post-meal cumbia lesson for all levels."
"Their 21+ El Grito cruise is more like a party than a bike ride, ending with a cumbia lesson provided by Lines Dance Academy and jams from DJ Espina Letal. Start at Salmon Street Springs and boogie around 5-6 miles with the group, ending within about a half mile of the start location. If you vibe with the experience, Cycle Homies puts on weekly rides of up to 15-20 miles, exploring the city at casual and moderate paces for all skill levels."
