The same-sex couple told police they were walking down River Street shortly before 8 p.m. on Sept. 13 when a group of people allegedly "began making anti-homosexual remarks towards them," per a police report obtained by Boston.com. Community leaders from the Boston Lesbigay Urban Foundation held a virtual press conference and rally Wednesday in response to an alleged homophobic hate crime in Mattapan last month. "We gather in love, but we also gather in truth," Curtis Santos, executive director of the foundation, said. "These incidents are reminders that while we've come a long way, there is still more work to do."
Publicly-owned grocery stores could be valuable tools in helping residents burdened by rising food costs and those potentially facing the loss of benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Breadon said. A Boston woman was rescued from a New Hampshire mountain this weekend after injuring her leg. New Hampshire Fish and Game received a report of an injured hiker near the summit of Mount Osceola in Livermore around 3:20 p.m. on Saturday. The rescue team, made up of more than 20 conservation officials and volunteers, reached the injured hiker by 6:00 p.m., according to Fish and Game.
Crime The suspect was wearing a Celtics jersey and a Bruins hat at the time of the alleged theft. An alleged thief dressed seemingly head-to-toe in Boston gear is being sought in connection with stolen Amazon packages in Charlestown. The suspect is a white male in his 20s and was wearing a white Celtics jersey over a white t-shirt and a Bruins hat, Boston police say.
A driver fled the scene after they struck and killed one woman and critically injured another Sunday night in Jamaica Plain, officials said. According to the Boston Police Department, police responded at 9:37 p.m. to a report of two pedestrians struck by a motor vehicle near 101 South Huntington Ave. Officers found two women. The first was a 77-year-old woman who was transported by EMS to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
A 14-year-old was held without bail after allegedly stabbing a teenage girl near East Boston High School last month, prosecutors said. Another alleged attacker "will be arraigned at a later date." The 14-year-old, of East Boston, is charged with assault to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and assault and battery. The judge ordered them held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing Monday in Chelsea Juvenile Court, Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said.
The Dodgers battled back from a sloppy start to the NLDS as Teoscar Hernandez atoned for a misplay that led to at least one (possibly two) runs with a go-ahead game-winning seventh inning homer. A woman was seriously injured when she was struck by a car in East Boston on Thursday afternoon, according to the Boston Police Department. At around 2 p.m., officers responded to a call about a pedestrian struck by a car in the area around Meridian Street and Saratoga Street. On arrival, officers found a woman suffering from severe, life-threatening injuries. Police say Boston EMS transported the woman to a local hospital for treatment.

Boston Police Supt. Paul McLaughlin said the incident happened shortly before 6 a.m., when officers were dispatched to 97 Mount Vernon St. after a 911 caller reported a breaking and entering in progress. The address is home to the upscale restaurant 1928 Beacon Hill. "On arrival, officers encountered a male suspect in a rear alley, armed with a large knife," McLaughlin told reporters, per video from WCVB. He said an officer discharged his taser and struck the man in an attempt to subdue him, but "to no avail."
