Tigers pitcher Framber Valdez suspended 5 games after hitting Trevor Story
"I thought it was weak and I thought everybody saw it. Their side, our side, I think everybody saw it. Yes, I do think so. I do think so when asked if he thought the pitch was intentional."
"We play a really good brand of baseball here. That didn't feel like it. It's not judging intent. I have no idea. But I know when you go out on the field, and you end up sort of in those confrontations, you usually feel like you're in your right. And it didn't feel good being out there."
"It was not intentional. It was not on purpose. It might look like that, but it wasn't. Valdez told reporters through a team interpreter after the game regarding the pitch that struck Story."
During a game between the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers, pitcher Framber Valdez threw a 94 mph fastball that struck Trevor Story after Valdez had surrendered consecutive home runs to Willson Contreras and Wilyer Abreu. The pitch resulted in benches clearing and Valdez's immediate ejection. MLB subsequently suspended Valdez for five games and Hinch for one game. While Valdez denied intentionality, Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy believed the pitch was deliberate, stating it appeared weak and obvious to observers on both sides. Even Tigers manager Hinch expressed dissatisfaction with the incident, noting it didn't align with their team's standard of play.
