The Brooklyn-Queens Expressway's underpass has undergone a transformative mural project that spans 1.5 miles. This ambitious street art initiative features seven large artworks celebrating iconic New York City culture, including pizza, pigeons, and featuring key themes of immigration, industry, and community healing. Selected artists interpreted the history of the area while celebrating its future. Will Power's work showcases the courage of Brooklyn dockworkers, emphasizing strength, unity, and resilience through their silhouettes against a backdrop of cranes and cargo ships, reflecting their importance as unsung heroes.
In this painting, I strive to capture the indomitable spirit of the Brooklyn dockworkers at Red Hook Terminal. Their silhouettes stand resolute against the backdrop of towering cranes and vast cargo ships, symbolizing their unwavering strength and unity.
The mural features bright, colorful and eye-catching paintings of iconic NYC culture—pizza, pigeons, coffee, the Staten Island Ferry and a smiling cartoon version of the Statue of Liberty.
