"Catholic Charities of Brooklyn and Queens launched an emergency response program intended to help those negatively affected by the federal government shutdown, including furloughed federal workers and families who are losing their SNAP benefits, beginning Saturday, Nov. 1. These people will be granted access to food, mental health support and case management. All 60 Catholic Charities food pantry locations in Brooklyn and Queens will be open to those affected, with no appointment necessary."

Catholic Charities of Brooklyn and Queens opened an emergency response program beginning Nov. 1 to assist people affected by the federal government shutdown, including furloughed federal workers and families losing SNAP benefits. The program provides food, mental health support and case management across all 60 food pantry locations in Brooklyn and Queens with no appointment necessary. A photo ID is required at pantry locations. Case workers and benefit coordinators will help families access emergency funds, and emergency grants will be provided on a case-by-case basis subject to eligibility restrictions. Staff can provide information, referrals and access to more than 160 programs by calling (718)-722-6001. The call center also connects people to mental health clinics. More than 450,000 people were served and over 4 million meals were distributed across Brooklyn and Queens in the first nine months of 2025.
