Gateway megaproject sues feds for withheld funds ahead of looming work shutdown
""For months, Donald Trump and his enablers in Washington have illegally withheld committed funding for this project in a brazen act of political retribution intended to hurt New Yorkers, putting thousands of union jobs and billions of dollars in economic benefits at risk,""
""I said New York would fight like hell to keep this project moving and today, that is exactly what we are doing.""
""brazen act of political retribution""
""its unlawful suspension of federal funding""
The Gateway Development Commission sued the U.S. Department of Transportation in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, alleging improper withholding of $205,275,358 in contractually obligated funding. The withheld funds threaten an immediate shutdown of work scheduled for Feb. 6 and could endanger about 1,000 jobs, with broader risks to thousands of union positions and billions in economic benefits. The Gateway program is a $16 billion series of passenger-rail improvements, centered on a new Hudson River tunnel and nine miles of new track between New York and New Jersey. New York and New Jersey attorneys general also sued to stop the suspension of federal funding.
