The Soldiers' and Sailors' Memorial Arch at Grand Army Plaza has recently completed a significant restoration after more than two years of work. This $8.9 million project, driven by the Prospect Park Alliance and funded by the city, marks the first major renovation in nearly 50 years. Officials highlighted the Arch's role as a historic symbol of Brooklyn's heritage and resilience, with improvements also made to the surrounding area, ensuring the monument remains a vital civic space for future generations.
The sweeping renovation of the iconic structure, first dedicated in 1892 to commemorate Union soldiers and sailors who fought in the Civil War, got underway in May 2023.
The Soldiers' and Sailors' Memorial Arch at Grand Army Plaza is a Brooklyn icon and now once again a shining jewel of the borough.
