Lawyer disputes possible cause of Brooklyn Bridge boat crash
Briefly

The NTSB is investigating a tragic collision involving a Mexican naval training ship and the Brooklyn Bridge, which resulted in two fatalities and numerous injuries. Despite reports attributing the crash to rough waters, the pilot's attorney suggests that other factors may have contributed, including the possibility that the ship was stuck in reverse during the incident. Of the 277 people on board, 22 crew members were injured, with 11 in serious condition. The NTSB's ongoing inquiry is expected to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding the collision.
"The pilot on the ship doesn't know what caused the ship to be rapidly accelerating," James Mercante, the pilot's lawyer, told NewsNation.
"The instructions that the pilot was giving to the ship's captain were designed to get the ship going in the direction it was intended to go," Mercante stated.
Mercante said that the ship may have been stuck in reverse at the time of the crash, a detail being investigated by the NTSB.
The NTSB is continuing to investigate why the collision took place and is scheduled to hold a news conference Monday.
