Man gets 18 years in prison for deadly stabbing near Pier 84 on Upper West Side | amNewYork
"Hugo Morales was lying on a park bench one summer morning on Pier 84 when Luis Gil fatally stabbed him without provocation, tragically cutting his life short, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said. While nothing can bring Mr. Morales back, I hope this guilty plea and lengthy prison sentence can serve as a measure of comfort and closure to his loved ones who continue to mourn his loss."
"According to court records, he was sitting on a patch of grass on the pair when Morales lay on a bench nearby around 6 a.m. that summer morning. Prosecutors said Gil apparently took offense to this and began standing over him and walking on the bench. When Morales did not engage with him, Gil removed a knife from his backpack and placed it in his shorts' pocket."
