On April 22, a new sculpture titled "Monuments to Motherhood" was unveiled in Prospect Park to honor mothers and caregivers. Artist Molly Gochman's 15-foot-tall bronze installation features two interconnected loops that represent relationships and support, inviting community engagement around caregiving topics. Gochman aims to celebrate the often unrecognized labor of caregivers, contrasting public monuments that predominantly honor men and violence. She intentionally positioned the sculpture to inspire discussions about care, emphasizing the need for a broader understanding of both monuments and motherhood.
I grew up with monuments to violence, and I wanted to create monuments to care. I call it 'Monuments to Motherhood' because I'm inviting us to care for ourselves...
