About 21% of U.S. adults plan to fly or stay in a hotel or short-term rental for Thanksgiving or the December holidays, down from 27% in 2024. Younger generations, men and parents of young children are most likely to reduce holiday travel. Payment methods shoppers plan to use include credit cards, debit cards, buy now, pay later services (BNPL) and rewards points. Forty-one percent of holiday shoppers expect higher gift prices, but only 24% intend to budget for holiday spending. Approximately half of shoppers will start buying gifts before the end of October.
