HP is owed nearly £698m in relation to its acquisition of Autonomy, due to discrepancies in the company's financial reporting. In addition to this amount, HP is entitled to $47.5m for losses associated with hardware sales and transactions involving Autonomy subsidiaries. Lynch's family argued that HP's initial claim of up to $5bn was greatly exaggerated. A further hearing scheduled will determine appeals and the distribution of awarded damages between Lynch's estate and Hussain, who previously settled with HP.
HP sued Lynch and Hussain in 2015, accusing them of masterminding an elaborate fraud to inflate the value of Autonomy, which HP bought for $11.1bn in 2011.
Lynch had always maintained his innocence and blamed HP for failing to integrate Autonomy into the company.
A spokesperson for Lynch's family stated that the judgment showed HP's initial claim for up to $5bn was a "wild overstatement."
The High Court ruled in HP's favour in 2022, though a judge said the company would receive "considerably less" than $5bn.
