"I had this idea, and we just said, 'Let's do it.' There's never been any roadblocks in my mind. I think that comes from my parents - they didn't put limits on me."
"Even my co-founder said, 'Who's gonna do that? I can't paint.' That's when I said, 'Well, what if you drink?' If we drink, we'll do anything, right?"
"I thought it was time to bow out. But my partners said, 'No - we want you to stay. You're the founder, you're the culture, you're the history,'"
Cathy Deano co-founded Painting with a Twist at age 56 in Mandeville, Louisiana to help her community heal after Hurricane Katrina. The paint-and-sip concept combined painting with social drinking and expanded into a national franchise over 17 years, reaching more than 200 U.S. locations. Deano credits a fearless, can-do mindset learned from her parents for overcoming early skepticism. She built a franchise support team, stepped back from daily operations, and helped form Twist Brands LLC, which now includes multiple pottery and painting chains and acquired Pinot's Palette. Deano remains actively involved in the business at 72.
