Approximately 3,200 machinists have been on strike since August 4 at three Boeing facilities in Missouri and Illinois that build and maintain F-15 Strike Eagle, F/A-18 Hornet, and some missile technologies. Union members voted to reject Boeing's latest contract offer, calling the proposal disrespectful to skilled workers and warning the disruption threatens military readiness. Union leaders demanded higher retirement contributions, wage increases tied to inflation, and a $12,000 ratification bonus parity with commercial airplane workers in the Pacific Northwest. The union estimated the proposed concessions would have cost Boeing about $50 million over four years.
