Alcohol distributor Republic National laying off hundreds in Bay Area as it exits state
Briefly

Republic National Distributing Co. plans to exit the California market due to rising operational costs and other industry challenges, resulting in the loss of 1,756 jobs statewide. The layoffs affect various locations, with significant cuts at the Franklin Avenue facilities in Tustin. Young's Market Co. will also see job losses, totaling 392 across multiple areas. The layoffs will begin on September 2 and will occur in phases through the end of the year, following the loss of a distribution partnership with Brown-Forman.
The decision to exit California was driven by rising operational costs, industry headwinds, and supplier changes that made the market unsustainable.
A combined 878 jobs will be cut at Tustin and Chino facilities. Another 486 positions will be gone in Hayward, Morgan Hill and Pleasanton.
640 workers, or 36% of the company's affected California workforce, will lose their jobs at the Franklin Avenue facilities in Tustin.
The layoffs, effective Sept. 2, will come in phases - depending on location - through the end of the year.
