California has established its first joint-build agreement with the Hoopa Valley Tribe to support the Middle-Mile Broadband Network. The 23-mile project will extend along California State Route 96, ultimately providing last-mile internet services to approximately 1,900 homes and 3,000 residents. This initiative contributes to a larger network of over 8,000 miles across the state and aims to facilitate ten additional partnerships with Tribal nations. Construction is ongoing, with a goal to enhance statewide connectivity and support Tribal self-determination.
The joint-build project will follow California State Route 96 and eventually support last-mile services to about 1,900 homes and 3,000 residents. It will also add resiliency to the state's open-access middle-mile network.
I am proud of the collaboration with the Hoopa Valley Tribe that will bring reliable internet access to the tribe and to the surrounding community. Our first-of-its-kind agreement with the Hoopa Valley Tribe proved the concept, opened the door for ten more Tribal partnerships.
