"I just lost my best friend and my guiding light in this world,"
"Kind, generous, just the most selfless person I've ever met,"
"I don't want her to be remembered for how she died. I want her to be remembered for how she lived and her life was beautiful,"
"Our world is a little chaotic, but people like Ellen (Orcutt) were always there to remind you that hey life may be chaotic, but you're ok, and we're ok, and we're all going to be ok,"
The crash occurred October 25 in San Jose off Foxworthy Avenue when an SUV attempting to pass crossed into the opposite lane and collided head-on with Ellen Orcutt's Honda CRV. Both vehicles flipped and both drivers later died; the SUV driver may have been drinking. Orcutt was 74 and worked 25 years as a social worker for Pacific Clinics, providing behavioral and mental health services. She regularly distributed hygiene kits, clothes, bibles and bubbles and was known as the "resource queen." Family and coworkers described her as kind, generous, selfless, and committed to helping others; her daughter intends to continue that mission.
