"Unfortunately for our department, this has happened way too often. We're going to do our very best to do the most important thing at this point, and that's to make sure that we bring the suspect to justice and take good care of that family."
"Deputy Nunez served with unwavering commitment, courage and deep compassion for the community he vowed to protect. His bravery and sacrifice reflect a life dedicated to safeguarding others, even at the greatest cost. Such devotion will remain forever etched in our hearts."
"There's a tremendous amount of violence out there. We're proactively trying to prevent this violence."
Andrew Nunez, a six-year San Bernardino County sheriff's deputy, was shot after responding to reports of a man threatening a woman. The deputy was transported to a hospital and died soon after. The suspect allegedly fled and led officers on a motorcycle chase. Nunez leaves a two-year-old daughter and a pregnant wife. Law enforcement held a memorial procession and escorted his body to the coroner's office. The department pledged to seek justice for the suspect, support Nunez's family, and honored his commitment, courage and compassion for the community.
