Early Friday, a fire erupted from a big rig and spread to a hillside near the Altamont Pass, closing westbound lanes of Interstate 580. The California Highway Patrol reported the fire started around 4:45 a.m. Fire crews were dispatched to extinguish the blaze. All westbound lanes from Grant Line Road to Greenville Road were closed, along with the westbound on-ramp at Flynn Road. Alternative routes were advised, but no estimate was provided for the reopening of the affected lanes. The fire continued to burn actively as of 7:30 a.m.

The CHP closed all lanes of I-580 in the westbound direction from Grant Line Road to Greenville Road due to the fire.
There was no estimate for when westbound I-580 would be re-opened.
