Carney to brief premiers on U.S. trade talks at Muskoka summit | CBC News
Briefly

Mark Carney met with Canada's premiers in Huntsville, Ontario, to brief them on trade negotiations with the Trump administration. U.S. President Donald Trump initially aimed for a trade deal by July 21 but later extended the deadline to August 1. Carney's briefing coincided with a first ministers' meeting where they discussed responses to the trade war, Arctic security, and public safety. Premier Doug Ford hosted the meeting, where a memorandum of understanding for energy and trade infrastructure was also signed by several premiers.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who is hosting the meeting, arrived Monday just before lunch to chair the first day of talks with Indigenous leaders, including Assembly of First Nations National Chief Cindy Woodhouse Nepinak.
Before those discussions kick off Tuesday, Ford, Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith will begin the day by signing a memorandum of understanding to build new energy and trade infrastructure.
