Tesla Faces False Advertising Lawsuit
Briefly

Tesla is facing a lawsuit from the California DMV for false advertising related to its 'Autopilot' and 'Full Self-Driving Capability' systems. The lawsuit targets the misleading nature of these claims as neither system permits fully autonomous driving. The DMV is seeking to suspend Tesla's dealer license for thirty days and requests restitution. Tesla argues that its warnings for driver attentiveness counter the misleading implications. Public commentary expresses outrage at the long-standing nature of these claims without intervention from other authorities, highlighting concerns over the consequences for consumers.
The Department seeks an ordersuspending Respondent's manufacturer and dealer licenses for not less than thirty (30) days, and seeks an order that Respondent pay restitution under Government Code § 11519.1, subdivision (a), in an amount to be determined in a subsequent hearing.
It is an open and shut case based on this: 'The system is designed to be able to conduct short and long-distance trips with no action required by the person in the driver's seat.' Since this claim is totally false, Tesla has to lose this case.
Tesla has previously argued against these claims, claiming that its warnings to drivers to stay attentive at all times are enough to counter any misleading statements.
I can't believe they have gotten away with it for so long, and that only California is trying to put a stop to it.
