Buehrle played for Chicago for the first 12 of his 16 seasons in the majors, known for working quickly with pinpoint control, going 161-119 with a 3.83 ERA in 390 appearances.
Buehrle expressed that he played baseball out of love and competition, adding that he never imagined having his number retired or having a statue in his honor.
After the ceremony, Buehrle and his family traveled around the warning track, where he caught a ceremonial first pitch from his daughter, Brooklyn.
