Cocktail of the week: Leftfield's Marty recipe | The good mixer
"The Marty Serves 1 25ml fino sherry we use Fernando de Castilla's antique fino 25ml maraschino liqueur we use Luxardo Maraschino 25ml mezcal we use Del Maguey Mezcal Vida 1 sherry-soaked cherry, to garnish (optional; see method) We serve this with a homemade boozy cherry (pack a small jar with stoned cherries, add about 50ml sherry, then seal and steep for a week), but a shop-bought one will also work."
"(If you're in a hurry, make a simple sugar and water syrup, add stoned cherries and leave to soften over a gentle heat. Add sherry to taste, leave to cool and use the same day.) Pour the fino, maraschino and mezcal into a boston glass or jug filled with ice, then stir for 15-30 seconds, to chill and dilute. Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice, garnish with a sherry-soaked cherry and serve Rachel Chisholm, co-owner, Leftfield, Edinburgh"
The Marty is a single-serve winter cocktail combining 25ml fino sherry, 25ml maraschino liqueur and 25ml mezcal, garnished with a sherry-soaked cherry. Recommended brands include Fernando de Castilla Antique Fino, Luxardo Maraschino and Del Maguey Mezcal Vida. A homemade boozy cherry can be made by packing stoned cherries into a small jar, adding about 50ml sherry and steeping for a week; alternatively soften cherries in simple sugar-and-water syrup with sherry for same-day use. Combine the spirits in a Boston glass or jug with ice, stir 15–30 seconds to chill and dilute, then strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice and garnish.
