P.F. Chang's combines Asian cuisines with a vibrant cocktail menu. The Zen Margarita is a classic drink featuring blanco tequila, lime, sugar, and orange liqueur but disappoints due to its lack of distinctive flavor; the extra Cointreau did not enhance its profile. It was smooth and understated, failing to deliver the tangy experience expected from a margarita. In contrast, other margaritas, notably the spicy mango margarita with complex flavors, showcased the establishment's creativity and skill in cocktail making, resulting in an overall delightful tasting experience.
The Zen Margarita is a classic rocks margarita, made with blanco tequila, lime, sugar, and orange liqueur with an extra helping of Cointreau.
The only unique aspect about the Zen Margarita was that extra shot of orange liqueur, which we were hoping would instill a citrus-forward flavor to pair with that spicy, alcoholic finish from a blanco tequila.
Unfortunately, the cocktail was very underwhelming, the double dose of orange liqueur was imperceivable, and the flavor of the lime was all but non-existent.
The biggest burst of flavor from the Zen Margarita was from the salted rim.
While the Zen Margarita was the weakest menu item, it was still tasty, and our tasting of all of P.F. Chang's cocktails was overall delightful.
Our favorite margarita was the spicy mango margarita, made with a smokier, more complex reposado tequila along with much more vibrant spicy and sweet flavors.
