Rene Weiler has been named the new head coach of D.C. United after the club parted ways with Troy Lesesne. Lesesne's dismissal followed a disappointing streak of five games without a victory, including a significant 7-1 loss to the Chicago Fire. The club is currently ranked 13th in the Eastern Conference. Weiler, who has a notable coaching history, expressed confidence in D.C. United's project and aims to restore the club's competitive status. Kevin Flanagan will act as interim head coach until Weiler's official start.
"This is a club with a proud history and a passionate fanbase, and I believe strongly in the project taking shape here," said Weiler.
"The foundation that has been put in place gives me real confidence in what we can build. There is important work ahead, but I'm excited to help lead D.C. United back to where it belongs, competing for championships."
