Faire le Vide is an installation located on a remote island in Quebec, accessible only by canoe or kayak. Designed by Luca Fortin and Atelier mock/up, it consists of a wooden cube structure made from laminated cedar. The cube’s minimal exterior contrasts with the textured, sinuous interior, making it both an artwork and a peaceful retreat. Its prefabricated design respects the natural terrain, linking the installation closely with its environment. The toolmarks on the interior walls highlight the dialogue between digital fabrication and the natural landscape.
Faire le Vide serves as a public installation designed by Luca Fortin and Atelier mock/up, manifesting a quiet architectural presence amidst the natural landscape of Quebec's Poisson Blanc Regional Park. This wooden cube installation intertwines art with the surrounding environment, offering a unique place of pause while inspiring dialogue about the relationship between human-made structures and nature.
The prefabricated structure, crafted from laminated cedar, was designed to resonate with the verticality of the surrounding pines through its exterior clad in vertical slats. Inside, the CNC-milled surfaces capture the essence of the fabrication process, allowing the imprints of tools to become a part of the aesthetic experience.
