Microsoft has reached an agreement with CISPE that provides European cloud providers with better licensing terms. This agreement allows qualified CISPE members access to a pay-as-you-go licensing model via the CSP-Hoster program, offering competitive pricing for Windows Server and SQL Server. The move aims to enhance competition and support European digital sovereignty. The program excludes large hyperscale providers to promote innovation among European cloud providers. Microsoft also introduced Microsoft 365 Local, enabling customers to manage their systems locally while keeping data secure from external access.
The agreement resolves a long-standing conflict. CISPE represents dozens of independent European cloud providers. The organization had previously complained about Microsoft's anti-competitive practices in licensing software on non-Azure cloud infrastructure.
The agreement aims to strengthen competition and support European digital sovereignty. The agreement between Microsoft and CISPE gives qualified CISPE members access to a pay-as-you-go licensing model through the CSP-Hoster (CSP-H) program.
