Microsoft has officially discontinued the purchase and rental of movies and TV shows on Xbox and the Windows web store as of July 18. While previously acquired content remains accessible through the Movies & TV app, new transactions are not permitted. Microsoft suggests users explore purchasing and renting options through platforms such as Prime Video and Apple TV. Refunds for prior purchases are not available as per company policy. The Movies & TV app initially launched as Xbox Video back in 2012, and the app for Xbox 360 will cease operations by the end of July 2024.
As of today, July 18, Microsoft is no longer offering movies or TV shows to buy or rent on Xbox or through the Windows web store. Users can still view previously purchased content through the Movies & TV app, but new purchases are not allowed.
Microsoft has stated that users can buy and rent movie and TV programming through alternative sources like Prime Video, Fandango at Home, and Apple TV.
