Starlink Gets Aggressive: Before-and-After BEAD Applicants in Tennessee
Briefly

Tennessee published its applicants list for the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program Benefit of the Bargain. The list shows significant growth, with total applications increasing by 80% from 298 to 541. Starlink, which did not apply in the initial round, is now competing for 164 project areas using low-Earth orbit satellite broadband. Comcast increased its applications from 27 to 39, shifting its technology proposal from fiber to a more varied approach, which suggests a response to new guidelines encouraging broader participation.
The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development released its list of initial round applications in April and released the Benefit of the Bargain list of applications today.
Tennessee has 178 BEAD project areas that received at least one application in either the initial round or the Benefit of the Bargain round.
