12 households displaced, cat killed, in Fairmount Avenue fire
""We had our first alarm and resources on the scene within three minutes," said Battalion Chief Anthony Sanders in a video shared by OFD after the incident."
""The great, aggressive actions by the crews really stopped this thing from spreading," Sanders said. "At the end of the day, it's a great save.""
"Flames damaged just four of the 66 apartments split between two buildings on the Fairmount property. But 11 or 12 apartments were damaged in total, by smoke and water."
A fire on Tuesday evening at 200 Fairmount in Adams Point displaced residents from approximately 12 apartments. The Oakland Fire Department responded quickly, controlling the fire within 30 minutes despite challenges with the building's water piping system. While no injuries occurred among residents or firefighters, a tenant's pet cat died. Four of the 66 apartments were directly damaged by flames, with additional units affected by smoke and water. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and support for displaced tenants is being assessed.
