A small plane associated with Peter Schultz, president of Scripps Research, has been lost over the Pacific Ocean following its departure from Ramona Airport. The plane, a four-seat Cessna T240, took off on July 13 and lost contact shortly after while cleared to land at Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport. The Coast Guard suspended the search on July 15 after covering 2,600 square miles of ocean about 400 miles off the coast. The pilot, a friend of Schultz, remains unnamed, and it is unclear if there were other passengers on board.
