Antioch council to discuss housing projects linked to controversial developer
"People elect us to make decisions that benefit the community. I don't think these two projects benefit the community, as a matter of fact,"
"I think it's a detriment because we are losing very valuable property for economic development, and we have to look at long-term perspectives, not short-term perspectives."
"taste of Senate Bill 330,"
The Antioch City Council will reconsider Slatten Ranch Townhomes and Wildflower Station Townhomes 2, both proposed by DeNova Homes Inc. Some councilmembers and residents raised objections about insufficient affordable units and the loss of land valuable for long-term economic development. State housing law Senate Bill 330 limits local ability to delay or block new housing, constraining local decision-making. Federal prosecutors charged former DeNova owners in April after an alleged attempt to influence a councilmember with cash in a coffee thermos related to a different Aviano project. One councilmember proposed delaying decisions to allow further staff review.
