On Friday evening, a four-alarm fire broke out at a commercial warehouse in East Oakland, drawing a response from approximately 75 personnel of the Oakland Fire Department. The department began its response at 4:55 p.m. and had multiple resources, including 12 engines and three fire trucks, involved by 5:20 p.m. The incident occurred on a day when the department was already on high-alert due to concerns over potential fire hazards from fireworks. A nearby resident described witnessing smoke as indicative of the frequent issues in the area.
About 75 Oakland Fire Department personnel responded Friday evening to a major fire engulfing a commercial warehouse in East Oakland near the Oakland Coliseum.
The four-alarm fire billowed black smoke from the warehouse on the 5200 block of E. 8th St., said Michael Hunt, a spokesperson for the Oakland Fire Department.
The commercial warehouse is about one mile from the Coliseum. The fire comes on a day when the Oakland Fire Department is already on high-alert.
The usual armageddon that goes on in East Oakland, just another day in paradise in an overlooked neighborhood, said nearby resident Sonya Pelaez.
