Westmont High School student Kaylee Garcia was one of 25 student leaders who guided peers from the Silicon Valley Career Technical Education center during a Breaking Down the Walls event on Aug. 29. The student leaders completed a three-hour training to prepare to facilitate a full day of activities focused on building meaningful connections. More than 100 students participated in activities organized by ignite2unite. SVCTE, run by the Metropolitan Education District, provides career technical education to high school students in Santa Clara County. Teachers and staff nominated student leaders for leadership potential, positivity and willingness to support peers, and leaders helped set the tone and create a safe environment for honest conversations.
