'I went from a cleaning job at DCU to studying my dream science subject there'
"I started cleaning at the Helix in DCU, four days after I turned 16. I suppose you could call it nepotism as my mam worked there already so that is how I got the job - and I really like it, which is why I'm still there. But it did take up a lot of my time when I was in school, particularly from November to January during the panto season as I would be working late and sometimes would not be finished until midnight if the bar was open after the show."
"Since she was 16 years old, Katelyn Enright worked part-time as a cleaner in DCU - the late hours undoubtedly affected her schoolwork and she didn't get the results she wanted in her Leaving Cert. But now, at 19, she has completed a PLC course, while still working at the university - and this has helped her to fulfil her dream of studying pharmaceutical science"
Katelyn Enright began working part-time as a cleaner at DCU's Helix four days after turning 16. The late hours during the panto season often kept her working until midnight and reduced the time available for schoolwork. Those extended shifts contributed to disappointing Leaving Cert results. At 19 she completed a PLC course while continuing to work at the university. Completing the PLC enabled her to pursue studies in pharmaceutical science. She obtained the job through her mother, who already worked there, and she remains employed because she enjoys the role.
